If it's intermittent, it may be a loose connection, a worn connector or worn wiring. Next time it happens, check to see whether other electrical subsystems actually work, such as lights. Had exact same problem in mk3 focus just replaced the 10amp fuse interior lights started working and so did the drivers door panel. Just check all the other 10amp fuses there isn't much. Secondly I found out that there was a leak in the pipe for my headlight washers and the water was dripping on the DRL connection causing it to become rusty.
